ABOUT US:
Pagans are people from all walks of life: doctors, lawyers, secretaries, mechanics, teachers, chefs, CEOs, and more. We have Conservative Pagans as well as Liberal and Moderate Pagans. We live next door and across the street. We may be that person who lives next door to your grandmother and mows her lawn because we know she can’t. We may be that person who volunteers in your child’s school every day. We could be your best friend who has found a spiritual path that resonates with them but doesn’t know how to tell you yet.
WNY Pagan Pride is an organization that was created to educate the public about what Paganism is and generally how they practice. This is done in an effort to dispel the myths commonly believed about Pagans. |
The Purpose of WNY Pagan Pride
The purpose of Western NY Pagan Pride shall be the advancement of religion and elimination of prejudice and discrimination based on religious beliefs within the Western New York geographical area, specifically those religions that fall under the definition of "Paganism*" as defined by WNY Pagan Pride. For this purpose, WNY Pagan Pride defines Paganism as a polytheistic or pantheistic nature-worshipping religion.
Paganism is the umbrella term for the various religious practices that are not included under the Judeo-Christian umbrella. The word Pagan means “from the country-side” and reflects the fact that Pagans follow indigenous, native religions rather than a book. The core beliefs of the various “pagan” religions vary. In general pagans show reverence for Nature and her cycles, respect for the Earth and all Her creatures, and reverence to the forces of the universe, seeing them reflected in the world around us, in everything, and every person. Pagan religions include but are not limited to; Asatru, Dharma, Druidry, Heathenry, and Wicca.
